With my birthday just passing 3 days ago, the most wonderful birthday gift one can give themself is to satisfy the 'wanderlust' in them and purchase a round the world airfare. The big countdown finally begins now. 7 days to go till I take off on an adventure of a lifetime. It's been a long time planning "The Big Trip", despite all the headaches and hiccups, I have something exciting to look forward to.
So what is "The Big Trip"? 1 suitcase. 1 passport. 1 journal. 10 currencies. 3 continents. 13 countries. 5 months. I will be spending 3 months abroad volunteering in various projects in South East Asia (Bali, Nepal & Thailand) particularly focusing on teaching english to young kids. This will give me the opportunity to become more than a tourist; to become part of the community in the developing countries, to live and work beside local people and to understand their world. I am hoping that my energy and compassion can make a real difference to the lives of the people who are less fortunate in this world. A lifelong dream I am finally fulfilling. From this experience, I want to gain confidence, enjoy rewards and learn new languages. The satisfaction of being able to give something effortlessly and gain unforgettable life experiences goes beyond words.
Following the completion of the projects; I look forward to the most deserved mini holiday when I kick back, relax and start marking my footsteps through Europe and America for 2 months. My last stop before heading home is in Jakarta where I will finally meet my sponsor child Liga - a 12 year old indonesian boy whom I sponsor through Childfund Australia.
As it has finally reached my last week before I take off, it will be a chaotic last week of work, catching up with family and friends, emotional farewells and last minute things to do/pack & eat.. I hate farewells. I just know that I will be an emotional wreck at the airport next Monday morning. Damn, what did I get myself into? However in saying that; I am packed, ready to jetset and take on the adventures coming my way for 2012.
XOXO
