Day 79 - Thailand : Farewell Clarice...

We had brunch at Top Bar and Restaurant. I decided to have a tofu and mince pork soup with rice today. I felt like something soupy. Dawid had the green chicken curry and Clarice had eggs and toast. I haven't been disappointed with food in Thailand as yet. The food at Top Bar is just amazing. The owner is a great cook.

After brunch, Clarice and I decided to get a massage. Dawid couldn't join us because he had an early class. We chose the Thai oil massage. We walked in and were greeted with the most friendly faces. We were asked to take off our shoes and were given buckets of warm water to soak our feet in. After a minute the ladies came up to us and washed our feet. We were guided to the massage room where we had to strip off to our panties. The Thai oil massage was very relaxing and it is very easy to fall asleep whilst it's being administered - I dozed off several times, actually. The massage technique is a form of rubbing of the muscles using the oil to slide the hands around joints, tendons and muscles. This is my favourite type of massage. The pressure was perfect for me. The masseuse did a wonderful job. I walked out feeling great. It was something I desperately needed after travelling for over 2 months and sleeping on not-so-comfortable beds.

Clarice and I went back to the guesthouse and had instant noodles for lunch. I headed to school and met Dawid in the office. We sat in the office for 5 minutes to find out that classes had been cancelled for the day because over the next two days, the monks are preparing for the 'Teacher's day' (Wai Kru Day) ceremony. Different school holds Wai Kru Day in different months (January, June or October), one thing is consistent - Wai Kru Day is always held on a Thursday, as this is thought to be an auspicious day by Thai Buddhists. Wai Kru Day is the day of the year when Thai students show the most respect to their teachers by participating in a big school ceremony. At this time, they thank their teachers for the knowledge they have given them, for the gift of learning, and also wish them good luck in the future school year and in their future lives. Students come to school with flowers and gifts for their teachers.
