Day 35 - Bali : School fun day...

Timo, Christina and I walked to school this morning whilst Julia rode the bicycle. Today is a special event day for the students. We have organized a number of activities to entertain the students. We were impressed with the amount of students who turned up to participate in these activities. The activities include the apple bobbing game, duck duck goose, arts and craft and painting of the new school banner.

Approximately 100 students joined in the fun. There were four groups of students and I was in charge of the apple bopping game and duck duck goose. A bucket of water was filled up and a number of apples were put in the water to float. One by one, the students held their hands behind their backs and tried to catch the apple with their teeth. The apples were moving around in the bucket of water, which made it harder to set your teeth onto. Everyone ended up with wet faces, damp clothes and there were a lot of giggles. Only the boys in this group participated, as the girls were too shy. Julia and Christina looked after the arts and craft group – they made a cute face with dangling legs and fancy hair.

Timo also joined in the fun and tried to bop for the apple. He did well. In the bunch of apples, I discovered a very unusual shaped apple – it looked like a bird. How cool.

Komung Eddie in his busy corner taught the students how to carve a dolphin out of a bar of soap. Komung Eddie is very creative and artistic. The dolphin he carved looked amazing. Sandra sat with the group of girls who brought in their own materials to make the beautiful baskets they make out of some type of leaves – they use these baskets for the praying rituals and boy, were these young girls talented. Sandra tried to learn how to make one, but it was too difficult. The girls even brought flowers to put them in the baskets once they were finished. The final result was just absolutely stunning. When the apple bopping game was over, I taught the kids how to play duck duck goose, the kids had a great time and the boys always chose the girls because they were slower runners. It was so funny watching them play.

We provided cakes for everyone as a little treat. Our final task was to paint the new school banner. Komung Eddie drew out the letters and each student had a go with painting sections of the letter. Once that was done, we had a few students (who stayed back to finish it), make hand prints around the banner – the end result turned out really nice and we were really happy with it.

Here’s a snapshot of some of the kids with their little projects. It was a very successful day for us. Everyone had a great time and the school banner looked awesome.

We dined in at Bali Mandala for lunch. After lunch, Timo and I chilled out by the pool in the sun. I continued reading Hotel K whilst he dipped in and out of the pool.

When we got back home, it was time for dinner. Tonight I had spring rolls and nasi goreng. Delicious. Christina and I decided to have a movie night and set up our very own ‘theatre’ haha. We watched Step up 3. I fell asleep half way. It’s been a very productive day but a very fun one as well.

Good night world.
XOXO
