We decided to be healthy today and shared a watermelon for breakfast. We do not have a fridge as the one that is in the kitchen right now does not work. Boo - I am so upset that we do not get cold water or cold fruit. But, I guess I just have to deal with it. It's all part of living in this village. Back to basics - the very basics that is. We just chilled out this morning as we were pretty lazy and exhausted. The heat is really getting to us and draining our energies. I caught up on some blogging AGAIN, I'm really trying.
Day 2 of teaching. We have yet another two classes today. The second group of class had more boys so they were a more rowdier class. We taught them the same thing we taught the classes yesterday - habitats of animals. One cheeky thing about this class is that some of the boys come in earlier to sit in the first class and copy down everything that is on the board, therefore they will have the answers handy for their class. That's really naughty. haha. Nonetheless, we had a great class and the kids really enjoyed it. I can see that they are getting a little more confident compared to the first 15 minutes of the class. The only thing that is really confusing for them is the 4 different accents that have to learn. You have my Aussie accent, Christina's American accent, Julia's German accent and Komung Eddie's Balinese accent. I try to make things easier and go with the American accent, its easier for me to pronounce it than having the kids trying to pronounce it with the Aussie accent. I never realised how different our Aussie accents were until being exposed to other accents on a regular basis. Even just pronouncing the simple words such as eat, food or beach. Apparently we emphasise on the vowels a little more than others. Everywhere I go, I get told that the Aussie accent is a favourite but the way things are pronounced are so different compared to to the Americans or British.
After school, we walked home with some of the kids - well the naughty boys. They were really funny and so entertaining. All the way, they were singing "its not about the money, money, money, we don't need your money money money". Boys being typical boys, mucking around with us teachers and pulling faces at us. It was a fun walk home.
Sandra instructed Julia to go to the bookshop to get us girls all a book each. Sandra has recommended us to read "Hotel Kerobokan", seeing that we are in Bali. Hotel Kerobokan is written by Kathryn Bonella - an Australian Journalist. This book talks about life in the Kerobokan notorious jail in Bali. It covers stories of Schapelle Corby, the Bali bombers, Bali nine and many other stories of other inmates. Anyone can visit the jail for 25,000 rupiahs for a little tour, I'm too scared to step near it let alone take a tour. This book should keep me busy for a while.
For dinner, we went back to our favourite warung that opens at 6pm every evening. Julia introduced me to a new dish - it is called Fu Yung Hai, a Chinese Indonesian dish. It is prepared with beaten eggs and various vegetables. The dish is served with an amazing spicy red sauce. I also got the nasi goreng (spicy). I have got to say that the Fu Yung Hai is so addictive. I want to have it again tomorrow night. The two goes together so well and I am in love with the spicy red sauce. So this is the typical side street warung. Nothing fancy but the food is to die for.
After dinner, the three of us sat in our courtyard and chatted for hours. It was such a great laughing session. The girls told me about how the locals tried to hit on them. It was hilarious hearing about these stories. It's bizarre what goes through these guys heads. One of them started calling Julia - angel & fairy and drew a picture of her; whilst one guy who was teaching Christina how to ride the motorbike sniffed her sweaty hair and told her she smelt beautiful, even though she had been sweating all day and smelling like crap. The girls are both grossed out by the guys. I was beyond myself rolling around on the ground laughing. It's great that I can have these conversations with the girls, we get along very well and I look forward to more memorable moments and experiences with the girls.
Good night world.
XOXO
