I woke up at 5am this morning thinking that I was late for my flight because I had forgotten to set the alarm. But phew, I wasn't. My flight was at 8am this morning to fly into Da Nang, so I had to leave the hotel by 6:30am the latest. I got ready and headed for the buffet breakfast (included in my hotel package). It wasn't so great and was really nothing flashy - it's probably the smallest buffet selection I have seen during my experience of travelling. However, I finally got to eat an authentic bowl of vietnamese noodles - it was a very small serving but perfect for breakfast. After breakfast, I checked out and made my way to the airport (I didn't get ripped off this time, the hotel staff called the taxi for me).
Bye Ho Chi Minh City. It's amazing at this time of the morning (6:15am), there are already so many people awake heading to wherever they are going. Whilst driving through the busy road, I spotted the electrical wires - hm, doesn't look very safe to me. It looks so tangly that it really annoys me. We drove past an interesting structure which I have no clue what it is, but it looked cool.
Flew with Vietnam Airlines domestic. I was impressed with how new the planes were and the level of comfort. It was only an hour flight from Ho Chi Minh to Da Nang. Because it was such an early morning and the seats were so comfortable, I slept most of the time on board. Zzzzzzzzzz :)
Driving through the streets of Da Nang and into Hoi An was very different compared to the hectic streets of Ho Chi Minh. There wasn't much traffic and there were barely any people around. It seemed like a ghost town. It was such a long taxi ride (compared to usual), I was thinking to myself - where is this man taking me? He then suddenly pulled over and a lady came to the window where he asked for directions to my hotel. The lady knew where it was and asked if it was ok for her to hop in the taxi to direct. By that time, I was already a little suspicious so I had prepared myself with google maps, I told the lady and the taxi driver that I will direct him. (Thank god for google maps and global roaming). So I directed the last 15mins of the drive and eventually we arrived at Sea & Sands Hotel in Hoi An.
Finally, I checked into Sea and Sands Hotel. Three stars – not so bad, but definitely nothing flash. I have a balcony that overlooks Hoi An. I am currently in Hoi An because my best friend Susan is getting married (second ceremony) again. Susan and Ryan have chosen The Boutique in Hoi An for their official ceremony/reception. They were actually legally married in Australia a month ago, but this lucky couple gets to do it again and get a holiday out of it (and did I mention traveling through Europe for their honeymoon – super jealous). I am super excited about seeing Susan shortly. My hotel is located less than 2 minutes drive from The Boutique. As I was approaching, my mouth dropped. The beautiful French colony design really caught my attention. It is an absolutely beautiful paradise like resort. I walked straight over to the pool where I found Susan, Ryan and their families all chilling either in or by the pool. I immediately stripped and jumped in. The weather is a little warm and but not so humid in Hoi An. I gave Susan a big hug and kiss as I was finally glad to be around people that I knew and obviously very excited about the wedding. I am the maid of honour and I am extremely nervous about my speech. Yes I wrote my speech, but I honestly haven’t practiced it and I’m definitely not one for speeches. Eeeeeeeek.
So straight up, we ordered cocktails – yummmmmmmm!! Being a tequila lover, I asked for the tequila margarita. It was refreshing. I was still very fascinated about the resort and I went around exploring and taking photos. I’m spewing that I’m not staying here because they were totally booked out at the time I made the enquiry. The good thing is that I get to chill out here everyday even though I’m not a guest and we get free wi-fi too. I am currently roaming and my bill has skyrocketed. Oops.

We headed to the worlds heritage site – Hoi An Ancient Town. I felt the cultural influences walking through this little town. You have restaurants and bars by the river where you see the fisherman in their boats floating by. Little woman carrying baskets of food and fruits to sell. Street side food stalls and just lots of locals trying to sell you things. The food is amazingly cheap and delicious. We stopped by a random restaurant and had a late lunch. Servings were generous and we all sipped on our yummy cocktails.
It started pouring down rain after our meals, so we headed back to the resort and chilled out by the bar for a bit. On the way back to the resort, Susan dropped in a shop/house next door to the resort wanting to buy alcohol. She bought a local vodka for $5 – we drank it thinking it tasted really weak, haha. Little did we know, it creeps up on you. So Susan and I were a little happy. Hehe. We joined the gang for dinner at the restaurant at the resort – OMGGGGGGGG the food is so good, no words can describe it. During dinner, there were a group of old germans celebrating a birthday. They were so adorable because they had 3 of their friends entertaining and singing the night away. It was very cool to see people at that age still enjoying themselves as a group.
So we are having an early night today because there is a big day ahead of us.
Ooh Yu Hun & Ryan arrived very late tonight. Yay – more friends.
Good Night world.
XOXO
